About Jonas Oesterle
I am a 6’1, 180 pound player from Syracuse, New York. I play for the Florida Jr. Blades USPHL Premier team. My goal is to play on a varsity college hockey team to further pursue education and my undying love for the game. I can proficiently play all five positions. This season I’ve played primarily center, and defense when the team needs it. My strengths as a player revolve around my ability to see the ice and create offense for my teammates, which make it easy to transition between roles and positions. Last season with the Utica Jr. Comets USPHL Premier team and my last year of U18 with the Syracuse Nationals, I played defense.
This season I was named captain, and with that responsibility I bring accountability and discipline. Prioritizing the team, and good habits that help everyone develop. Focusing on the small details like how we prepare for practice and what we do during practice have helped not only myself, but everyone on the team. I am proud to be a captain and take the team and the responsibility just as seriously as my own future.
Academically I hope to pursue a degree in business, and have other interests in environmental science, athletic performance, and endocrinology. I maintained a 95 percent average in high school with multiple college level courses from Syracuse University, SUNY Albany, SUNY ESF and SUNY OCC.
This season in 19 games I have 15 points.
My top two priorities will always be school and hockey and I believe my passion and work ethic will help me succeed at any program. The habits that have helped me do well in school have also helped me a lot in hockey. I hate to lose and I do not underachieve. That paired with my unrivaled passion for hockey has helped me take massive steps every year, and come back from a serious injury that almost ended my playing career when I was 15 from which I lost an entire season.
This season on top of practice and our team workouts I spend multiple sessions per day in the driveway or on roller blades working on my deception and the ability to create space. I am working on applying on all the work I’ve done with my skating coach Ty Simmons and the individual work into games to really show the player I am. As well as skill work, I prioritize mobility and recovery to stay injury free and performing as well as possible everyday. The same can be said for nutrition, putting the best food in my body at the best possible times that will aid performance and recovery. I’ve spent a lot of time researching hockey, nutrition, and endocrinology to improve performance.
Besides my love for family, hockey is the best thing to ever happen to me. I’ve gotten to meet so many amazing people and I hope to travel to places like Norway, Japan, and Sweden to reconnect with a lot of old teammates. I love life outdoors whether it’s being out by a lake, camping, hiking or walking my dogs. I also love heading out to the park to play football or soccer with the fellas. I can’t wait for whatever’s next and the amazing people I’ll get to meet along the way.
